|
Help, my brakes don't work.
I did the typical 21 year old stuff, I heard a slight grinding sound coming from the front driver side wheel area and kinda let it go. It was really only when I was hitting the breaks at the beginning. Then the other day it made a loud crack sort of sound and the brake pedal hit the floor. I did regain some pressure after a second. There is still fluid in the reservoir and i couldn't
find any leaks around the calipers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How thick your pads are? How does the surface of the rotor look?
It sounds like you have air in the system. Fill the reservoir with fresh DOT 3 fluid and bleed the system. Good luck, Sam

So this is kind of interesting. i lifted the caliper off the rotor and it turns out the inner pad is gone. and there isnt even broken parts around.

If the pad gets thin enough they can sometimes shoot out through the small gap between the caliper and rotor. Make sure you properly lube the caliper guide pins this time. The pins may have been binding thus causing uneven pad wear. Check the inside of the rotor for damage, don't just put on new pads if there is, have the rotor turned or replace it withe another one.
