99 Cav getting hot!

Hello all!

I have a 99 2.2L Cav that is getting hot on me. It's fine if I'm driving along as normal, and the AC is fine then as well. But when I get in stop/go traffic or the drive through the temp starts to climb and the AC basically stops working I guess you could say. The AC just spits out hot/really warm air. The temp reading has almost gone outside the "ok" range many times.

When I am sitting at a red light for a while, I've noticed that the engine will sort of "rev" every so often maybe once or twice a minute. If I didn't have a foot on the brake I would ram in the car in front of me pretty hard for sure when this happens. If I cut the AC off in stop/go it seems to be a little better but still gets hot. Coolant level is fine.

I'm a noob at auto repair/parts so take it easy on me please.

Re: 99 Cav getting hot!

Agreed. Cooling fans are a common failure on the J bodies. Check for power and ground at the connector (PITA to get disconnected) if you've got it, replace the motor.

Re: 99 Cav getting hot!

I have the same problem, the only time i noticed it was after a full day of delivering pizzas and stopping at 5 min lights. My quick fix was turning the car off at those lights, and stop doing pizza deliverys. My car has made it threw this summer with only one hot day of traffic. And winter is right around the corner
