Re: Jeep vs Ford vs Chevy

As of 8-4-09 according to yahoo auto news the top 10 cash for clunkers trade-ins for new cars are as follows #1 98 ford explorer,2 97 ford explorer, 3 96 ford explorer,#4 99 ford explorer, #5 jeep grand cherokee(no year on any jeeps) I like jeeps so I assume they were old or v6s. #6 jeep cherokee #7 95 ford explorer # 8 94 ford explorer #9 97 ford windstar and #10 99 dodge caravan. Ya cant make this up! you dont even see one chevy! I do have joke about ford it will probably anger ford owners so I wont OH WHAT THE HAY ford spelled backward = driver returned on foot!!!

Re: Jeep vs Ford vs Chevy

Alright all kidding aside I have not been in this forum long but I have seen all kinds of problems posted. Normally I am a GM guy but the newer GMs have problems that are high tech in nature. Thats hard for ave guy. My next love comes from having dodge superbee and charger when young. I dont like Chrysler per say but when they do stuff right they do stuff right . When they took over jeep they tried to keep it somewhat a work horse mostly strong and dependable. They have made mistakes too but the (IN MY OPPIN) 4.0 straight 6cyl is v.good on gas, strong ,& reliable. The grand cher has mostly full power and comfy they do have rust issues. My wife now ownes a 97 blaser v6 and they say thats a 5.7 with 2 cly removed. It gets good gas miles and has lots of power my freind has shop and rebuilds engs he says the newer vortex engs(chevy) have head problems and GM knows but dosent care, my wifes pcm is causing trans problems not bad enough to concern me, got it cheap cause dealer couldnt fig out they tried repairing trans!. She had 98 grand cher before head on accident(waffled jeep) but I liked that veh also. both seem to have normal repair issues with exc of ecm that if I bought would need coding by dealer (they want to take the backyard mech out of pix). I never had a love for ford but own 89 must gt conv 5.0 and love it so I cant knock ford but the cash for clunkers thats a fact I almost couldn't believe my eyes as I read the Yahoo clip. ultimately its your chose go around this forum and check problems that have been posted about vehs you are interested in, may be that can steer you away or to your purchase. good luck no jokes

Re: Jeep vs Ford vs Chevy

Well my brother had just bought a 98 grand cherokee , i believe u when you say , they are comfy and have a great motor, straight six motor is known to last , but his transmission is a little rough when going into reavease ive noticed lol , but i love his truck, but i wanted to be alittle different, i like the cherokee 4.0 HO, but its alittle to small inside but a great engine and truck, and with the blazer and jimmy ive heard alot of problems with engines blowing at low km, and same with trannys.. so its really hard, one reason im going with Domestic is because cheaper on insurance, and alot more power, i was thinking nissan pathfinder, or 4runner, i dont know what to do lol

Re: Jeep vs Ford vs Chevy

So buy diff color and check trans fluid color when you buy?! I dont see much diff as per inside size wise they are all mid size ,one may have slight larger interior. google cubic inter.size each veh. or maybe given on nada site, Internet is great.I dont like buying foreign I think over rated but again thats just me.Years back the USA was upset with Japan for not buying our stuff(I own a Electronic store and was at the time fact authorized by NAP) I had sold tvs and was waiting for deliv that was way to long overdue so I called they switched me to tech, being factory myself they asked for help after days of working with them I deduced from schematic that the IC controlling H.OSC to Horiz output was skipping causing Horiz output to burn out.The fall off the chair funny was guess where those componients came from!!!! For the first time ever Magnavox had agreed to use japan made parts in good will of their purchase of US sets. Those were the two parts that were failling and caused the delay. Remember today a lot of the electronics used in our vehicles are not produced here. The Japans are a smart people. But sad as it is somehow I know (I cant prove) but the tvs made for sale in japan using same part#s would never break down. You do the math. That still leaves a good product to buy here because if crap they lose face.

Re: Jeep vs Ford vs Chevy

Like I said I am normally GM guy and I can say even though I really like the 97 blazer my wife got to replace the grand cherokee. the grand cherokee was comfy, yet it felt old school as far as repairs. I dont drive suv's my cars are 89 mustang 5.0 GT conv flowmasters make it sound great all other fun drivers are caddies the rare ones are 71,75,&76 eldo convertibles. 71 needs total restore 75 I stripped to bare metal and am apx 2weeks from finnish after 3 years then I will sell. 93 caddy fleetwood rwd I usually pull out for winter, track control rwd is good in snow and right now I lent my 89 fwd caddyfleetwood to my 27year old son until we (I) finish his 95 camaro z28 conv. redoing body with custom paint. As you can see most vehs are GM. Now that jeep has been replaced by blazer the stang and my 90 ford high top van (for vactions apx 70k orig miles) are the only none GM's I own.You need to go to dealership to test drive veh's so you can pick one you like. you dont have to buy from dealer but best way to look at many veh's though. dont worry about what others like. but as I suggested before. once you chose one you like, the size, the feel. then check forums for posts on that type of suv as far as problems they have had and fixes so you can determine if you can handle repairs. Good luck

Re: Jeep vs Ford vs Chevy

I answered this question on the Blazer Forum. I have owned all three & still own two of them. I'm not repeating it here.
The Jeep would be my first choice with a 4.0 I-6. I don't give an ounce of credit to the above post on the Clunker list. That maybe the list but as a retired mechanic Chevy has a bunch of junk also. The Blazer 4.3 engine is a problem engine. Chevy has piston slap problems not only in the 4.3 but the 6.0 also. They have junk front ends also compared to Jeep & Ford.

Re: Jeep vs Ford vs Chevy

well I'm gona have to agree with the majority here, the Grand Cherokee is the best of the 3 by far. It has plenty of power for everyday driving and get decent gas mileage, plus its the most reliable car I've ever seen.

EDIT: and dont get a damn explorer especialy a 90's one. my uncle had one and all it did was cause him problems
