Re: Chevy Vs Ford Vs Jeep

Personally I would buy a Jeep with a 4.0L I-6. We own a 97 Blazer 4x4 & a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9 4x4. I have owned a 92 Explorer 4x4. They all have their problems & good points. The Blazer gets good gas mileage but the 4.3 V6 is a problem engine. They are known for piston slaps, & a lot of misc problems. Good off road & very comfortable to drive on the road. Have good cargo space. The Explorer lots of tranny issues. Good engines the 4.0 V6. Gas mileage is the worst of the three. Not bad off road & comfortable ride. Now the Jeep. By far the best off road. Can buy with a 5sp manual trans, which gives the best mileage of the 3. The 4.0 inline 6 is a bullet proof engine, good for 300,000 miles. The Jeep is not as smooth a ride as the other two but is comfortable.
Hope this helps, I'm a retired mechanic my choice would be the Jeep, then the Explorer but only certain years, (92-97). Then the Blazer. But I like our Blazer but I have engine issues & this is the second engine in less than 120,000 miles. When I replace it I will follow the advise I shared here.

Re: Chevy Vs Ford Vs Jeep

well thanks for the info , i know blazers have there engine problems and also tranny problems, ive heard engines going at 88k lol, and trannys at 100k , its just to bad because i like the chevy blazers, but dont want to have to replace motors or trannys all the time lol. well my bro just bought a Grand cherokee 156k paid $4500 i think a little over priced but i love it, lots of room i love the straigh six motor , u actually can change the plugs and wires yourself.

Re: Chevy Vs Ford Vs Jeep

Something to consider: The "cash for clunkers" program said the number one vehicle being traded in is the Ford Explorer, the number two trade in is Jeep Cherokee.
