DPFE Sensor

07 Ford F150 6 cyl

I want to check the DPFE Sensor's reference voltage but I don't know how to get the clip off the DPFE sensor. Any ideas out there. does it just pull off or is there some other procedure. I don't want to break the electrical connector.

Re: DPFE Sensor

They put the clips on at the factory to make sure thy don't come loose. Spray some WD 40 on it and slip a small screwdriver down the sides to break it loose. There is a connector tab that will have to be raised up to get the the connector loose.

Re: DPFE Sensor

I will try this it just feels like cheap brittle plastic that will break if I try and force it. I think I see the tab that needs to be raised but I bet it breaks.

Re: DPFE Sensor

Ok I got the connector off without a problem. I also checked the reference voltage on the connector and I get 4.1 volts. So it is within the guidelines.

Now I need to backprobe the sensor. How do I backprobe the sensor? I assume that means I need to plug the connector back in and check voltage from the sensor's behind? But....
I don't see anywhere I can input the leads to check the voltage.

The reason why I am doing all this in the first place is that I'm getting a code saying the EGR valve is bad. I have sinced replaced the egr valve but I still get the code even after I have cleared it.

So I have checked the egr vacume regulator and now I'm checking the DPFE sensor.

Anything else I should check?

Re: DPFE Sensor

BTW the plastic tab does not raise but it instead gets squeezed. that did the trick to get the connector off.

Re: DPFE Sensor

What is the code you are getting? P0401 or a P0402??

Re: DPFE Sensor

I was getting P0401. When I had this code on my Buick it was the EGR Valve and that was that.

But...

The truck must have something else at issue here.

Re: DPFE Sensor

Ford's are famous for a bad DPFE sensor to cause that code, and they also clog up the EGR port in the intake. Did you clean the ports really good when you changed the EGR?

Re: DPFE Sensor

I thought I did. But maybe I should recheck that again anyhow.
