My 96 Camry recently has quit while I've slowed to turn a corner or a couple times while I've been stopped at a red light. It usually starts back up after a couple tries and then drives normally. I've had it into the shop and they said they couldn't find any problems. A few days later while out of town, I heard a clunk noise and the car died and leaked anti freeze. I had it towed and they said it was the water pump and timing belt. I had them replace both and now a week later, my engine is still quitting on occassions. They've tried a few times to run the computer scan, but cannot get it to read anything.
Any ideas? |

Re: 96 Camry Quits while slowing down or stopping at light.
When asking for help it is best to give additional information in your thread. The engine in the car (I4 or V6), along with the current mileage and any recent maintainance or repairs that have been done to the car.
When a car stalls at a stoplight I first think of a dirty idle air control vavle. This is most oftern the problem IMHO. This valve is under the throttle body, so in most cases you can clean it via the port inside the throttle body. I always clean my throttle body and idle air control valve together. This is something you can do yourself. Do a search for throttle body cleaning on this forum or search the internet if you don't come up with anything here. There should be some threads on the subject. When you do this, just be sure to use throttle body cleaner or O2 safe carb cleaner. Also be sure to spray the cleaner liberally down in to the square or diamond shaped port in the base of the throttle body. That port leads to the idle air control valve. Let it soak down there while you go on to clean the rest of the throtle body. Mike |
