99 Speedometer / Instrument Cluster

Has anyone replaced the speedometer in their 97-05 Park? I am wondering if the dealer has to get involved in order to reset the computer or something.
Does the replacement retain its mileage and can it be set to zero?

The reason I ask is am wondering if a 2004/05 unit will work in a 1999. It does not cross-reference; 98 & 99 are together; 2000-03 the same; then the 04 & 05. The 04/05 have the different "look," but if the connector is the same it "might" work in a 00-03 and maybe even in earlier models.

I do not have a problem with mine, just wondering if I could swap in an 04/05 for the upgrade look.

Anyone fiddled with these and have some hands-on experience?
