Reverse lights don't work

Just noticed on my '02 GS that I have no reverse lights.Checked both bubs and all are fine. What fuse (location0 controls the reverse lights? I metered all the fuses I can find and they appear fine. Therefore, I believe it's the reverse switch - the question here is where is that switch?

Thanks

Stephen

Re: Reverse lights don't work

The backup lamps are controlled by 3 components in a '02 Regal GS. The transmission range switch aka park/neutral switch, a backup lamps relay and the body control module (BCM).

Also, check the fuse marked R/CMPT REL (7.5A).

Re: Reverse lights don't work

The fuse is #33 located in the right side dash panel. (top row, third from left)
The relay is under the dash left of the steering column. It is the top one of the two that you see there.
The BCM is just below the relays. It is a sealed unit with several harnesses plugged into it.
The Neutral Safety switch (NSS) /Transmission range switch is located on the top of the transmission where the shift cable connects to the linkage. It can be accessed through the left wheel well.
If you turn the ignition to the run possition without starting the engine, press on the brake and shift from park to reverse to neutral and back several times you should be able to hear the relay clicking behind the dash. If you hear the click, you can rule out the BCM and NSS. This is GOOD. It means that the relay is powered and the problem is in the circuit between the fuse and the bulbs.
Check for power to ground at the lt.gr. wire in the plug connection located in the upper right side of the trunk with the shifter in reverse. If still no power, check the lt.gr. wire connection at the plug connection under the left rear seat. If there is still no power you'll need to check the relay itself. This will require removal of the lower dash panels. If you do get power at any of the above check points it indicates a break in the circuit between that point and the bulb connections. There is a good chance it is in the wire harness where it flexes between the body and the trunk lid.
GOOD LUCK......
