2001 dodge caravan transmission solenoid replacement
Here's the story. Was driving the other day. Stopped at a red light, went to take off, felt a jump and van went into Limp mode. Limped it home and tried taking the neg. cable off the battery to reset the codes and they came right back up. Mother-in Law suggested this guy they know and he comes to my house and brings his code reader. Tells me it's a transmission fault code and he wants to take it to his shop. OK, he does it and calls me telling me it is either the Transmission speed sensors or the Transmission Solenoid unit, so he says we should start with the cheapest first. So he changes the sensors...no good. To make a long story short...this guy turns out to be a crackhead and runs off with $200 I gave him to secure some parts. I ordered the solenoid and am going to put it in myself tomorrow. The question I have is this: After I install it, do I need to take it to a transmission shop to have some kind of computer calibration done? I heard you do and the Haines manual kind of says something about it. If I do... Does anyone know what that might cost?
It really sucks that hard working people get taken by these jerk off's every day. I am so afraid to go to "legitimate" shops because they mark everything up so much and rape you to where you can't walk for a week!
Thank you for any and all advice!
