AC/Issue

My 2002 dies when you turn on the air. You can hear the engine come under load then the idle starts cutting out and it dies. Turn off the air and it is fine.

HELP!

Re: AC/Issue

Try disconnecting the AC clutch wire then turn the AC switch on to determine whether it's a mechanical or electrical problem.

Re: AC/Issue

The idle seems a little low and when I turn on the ac it just stalls the car. Is there a sensor the controls idle? Could a PCV Valve cause this.
I don't think it is the AC Clutch.

Re: AC/Issue

If the AC will stall the engine because of a stuck idle air control valve (IAC) then putting the trans in any gear should stall the engine too.

Re: AC/Issue

Does the engine stall when you put the transmission in Drive or Reverse with the air conditioner OFF?

Re: AC/Issue

Sorry, I can't find any pics. Is there a device mounted on the throttle body that has a wire or wires going to it?

Re: AC/Issue

There is a plastic cover on the drivers side cover right on top is a sensor or something with a plug. Do you know where we could get a picture.

Re: AC/Issue

Wow, really hate to mess anything up. Besides getting a manual for your '02 at the local parts store, maybe a Pro will see this and respond.

Re: AC/Issue

On earlier engines they were called an Idle Air Control valve (IAC).

GM says you have to peplace the entire throttle body. It is not servicable.

Any ideas?
