2002 Grand AM GT Pulley

One of the pulley's (bottom left, and has an extension type looking thing) is rattling pretty good while in idle. I can see the belt vibrating a good bit between this pulley and the top left one.

I'm not a car person, but this doesn't seem typical. Any input on what the problem/fix is? I'm going to take it to a shop to get it checked out but would like some input so I don't get sold at the shop,... since I don't have a trusted mechanic yet.

Thanks!

Re: 2002 Grand AM GT Pulley

Welcome to AF!!

Sounds like your idler pulley is going out.

Runs about $40 at NAPA doesnt take long to change either. And probley best done before it breaks.
If that happens, your coolant wont circulate and it'll overheat pretty quick and could blow gaskets.
