need help connecting tamiya basic airbrush to compressor

hey guys, im having trouble connecting my tamiya basic airbrush to the 10 gallon compressor i have.... well, not connecting, but making it work actually, i bought an airbrush hose from harbour freight and took off one of the quick conect fittings on the 1/4" hose from the compressor and everything connected together...but the problem is that as soon as i put any kind of flow thorugh the air pressure regulator, it comes straight out of the airbrush....it doesnt stop the air at all so the trigger is ineffective..

what am i missing here?

please help, i need to get my supra painted ASAP

Any idea what pressure the compressor is putting out? I'm wondering if it's well above what the airbrush can handle.

yea, 1 psi, i have an adjustable regulator o nthe compressor itself, and as soon as i open up ANY kind of airflow it starts to leak out of the needle... its weird b/c i dont see how any fitting would fix this but who knows.

I'm thinking it's probably a bit more than 1 psi. Hamsters sneeze with a bit more force than that. A normal operating range would be about 15-25 psi.

But at this point, some pics of your setup may help- particularly of the compressor, regulator, and airhose.

ok, i'll snap some as soon as i get back to the house.

but 1psi really is what is coming out, its a really nice quality compressor we have had for a while, and it has a nice regulator with a gauge on it. i SOON as i open up the knob, 1/20 of a turn, it start to slowly leak air from the gun, but like i said, as soon as i get back to the house i'll take some pics.

If your air pressure regulator is working and the pressure of the released air stream is 1 psi than probably the airbrush is broken.

I'm not sure that I follow your logic.

Re: need help connecting tamiya basic airbrush to compressor

i figured it out, i feel stupid, BUT relieved lol . first off, when i connected the gun, the compressor was blowing 90psi, so it blew off the little air hose inside, second of all, the tamiya basic brush doesnt stop airflow, it constantly flow air, but you have control over the inkflow, thats why it wouldnt stop flowing, it doesnt have the mechanism to stop the air from flowing, hence why its much cheaper then other brushes.

but it works perfectly no problems at all, thanks anyways guys!

If the air goes through the nozzle even though the pressure is under the maximum operating pressure of the airbrush that there is obviously something wrong with the airbrush (stuck needle, broken return spring, broken air admission valve), it's no rocket science.

Re: need help connecting tamiya basic airbrush to compressor

The basic airbrush doesn't stop the airflow, because the Tamiya Basic Compressor has a constant flow, and I think that if you block the airflow, you might damage it!

I have one myself,it isn't very good, but does the job!

yea i figured it would be what i payed for, 20 bucks
cant beat that, and besides, its just for my first model, i'll upgrade later as my skills get a bit better, no use in getting expensive equipment if you wont be able to use it like you're supposed to
