The Summer of '69

I was having a conversation with my girlfriend about my model building and it turns out that she has built a few in her day. The only one she has been able to find so far is an old MPC 69 Mustang Mach 1. Well, it is her dream car and she asked me to re-build the model doing away with the decals and making it appear stock. Well if you've ever tried to rebuild an old kit that has been assembled then you know what a chore this has the potential of being. After about 5 minutes I had all of the major parts separated and they are ready for the paint stripper. I told her not to worry, because if I mess it up I have another at the house to build. After the MPC came apart so easy, I had the brilliant Idea of a side by side build. Her MPC Mach 1 done in Factory stock, and my Mach 1 done with some modern upgrades, not sure what all it will get as of yet. I dug out my Revell 69 GT 500 which I had originally started to do in Acapulco blue with a gold stripe. I'm going to attempt to save the paint, as what I purchased several years ago has dried up. If I can't salvage it, I'm not sure if I will go back with a factory color, or if I will dig up some eye candy from the color chart. It also looks like I have a 3rd Mustang. An AMT 69 Mach 1 which appears to be the same as the MPC Kit. I'm going to do the AMT and MPC factory Stock, Kind of a his and hers from 69, the GT500 is going to get a modern touch.

Re: The Summer of '69

Thanks, I'll have a picture up soon. This may turn into a quad build. I was in the paint store today and somehow ended up with some cyber grey metallic, ah la 2009 corvette. How that happened I have no idea however, It may be my new favorite color. So this may turn into 2 69 mach 1's 1 69 Camaro, and a 69 GT500. The GT500 is currently in a brake cleaner bath. The mach 1's will be candyapple red and Acapulco blue. The Camaro Cyber Grey, and the GT500 is a toss up between Sonic Blue and Mineral Grey

Re: The Summer of '69

Alrighty, some pictures for you guys, as well as some plans. Not sure what is going to happen with the Camaro motorvation wise as I think I'm out of LS1 engines. The two Mach 1's will be stock, and the GT500 will get power from an 07 Mustang GT. The blue Mach 1 needs to have some spots filled, primed, and then re-painted, but the paint will have to wait until I get some more Acapulco Blue. The red Mach and the Camaro, pretty much just need hit with the 2000 grit paper, the backs of the hoods painted, and then decals and clear. I'm thinking about doing CF stripes on the Camaro, though I may leave it as is. The Mach will get black mach one stripes as well as the satin black painted on the hood.

Re: The Summer of '69

I've made some progress on this group. The Airbrush decided to act up a bit yesterday so, they will need sanded out with 2000 grit again, and re-cleared. I've been experimenting a little with the engines, using different colors for different parts, just trying to get some variety and add a little more realism to my builds.

The Group

The 69 Camaro, Paint is Cyber Grey, I can't comment on the engine, not sure what it is, as this kit is just kind of a big kit bash using parts from the spare parts bin, I picked up the body and some of its pieces as well as the wheels and tires in a lot. The front chin spoiler and rear deck spoiler will be SMS hi def CF decal, (if it holds up, my decals are pretty old)

The 1969 Mach 1, in Candy Apple Red. I've yet to go pick up more acapulco blue, so the other 69 will have to wait a bit. Everything is kit stock for the most part. I'm not sure where the wheels came from, they came out of my miscellaneous wheels tub. The tires were detailed with a white grease pencil and cleared with testors dull coat. The hood was done with some shake shake satin black. The corners aren't rounded like they should be but all in all its ok. The interior tub will go back into the car as it came out. The windows will be vacuum formed from clear styrene.

Finally the 69 GT500. The color is Ford Mineral Grey Metallic. The engine was pretty much painted a few years ago, I've just begun a little bit of detailing, going for mostly a stock look on this one.
