1996 Chevy Caviler Smokes, missfires, and has oil in air intake box.
My dad has a 1996 chevrolet cavalier Z24 2.4L. with around 170,000 miles on it. When he first bought it (which was probably less than a month ago) it didn't smoke or missfire. Now it runs really rough, missfires badly and smokes. I took the air intake assembley off of what I assume is called the throttle body and there was oil in the air intake box. Is this a sign that the motor is bad?

Blown intake manifold gasket most likely.

Is it an expensive repair? What causes the gasket to blow?
