battery dying

I got a 85 cherokee with the 2.5l. I have put 2 starters 4 soilinodes and 2 batterys and the alternator rebuilt the regulator was bad. But i can drive the jeep like 20 or 30 minutes after a fresh battery and then let it sit overnight and the next morning, nothing, wont even turn over. I think a have a draw some where but not sure, eny ideas?

Re: battery dying

If you want to be sure its a draw killing batt remove neg cable before bed time then in morning place terminal back on batt and start veh, if it starts you have now proved current draw overnight is killing batt. If batt dead batt not holding charge. If veh starts let the games begin!!! You now have the fun of finding the draw. You would need to open normal constent draws like radio( if anti theft make sure you know code) radio is hooked to B+ to hold channel the PCM fuse is next I dont think there are other draws . so now you can take a batt term off and connect a 12volt light from batt to batt terminal and if lights it shows something is pulling current at that point start pulling fuses one by one until light goes out that would be the circuit you need to trace. good luck let me know how you did

Re: battery dying

yeah, ive been working on it all day, i did the test light thing, and also checked it with an ampmeter.no draws that i can tell. but alternator is not charging the battery, i replaced the batt bulb in the cluster and found the fusible link broken on the tn/gr wire going from the alterntor to the soilinode still no charge, so i took the harness out and looked for broken wires on stripped insilation, nothing. I did find that the relay beside the solinode runs to the alternator, so is there eny way to check that relay, i also check all my grounds under the hood and they all seem fine.

Re: battery dying

The only thing i addressed was that your batt died overnight. If you have a digital meter you can check batt voltage not running then after start. It should go up to 13.8v when running. If not its not charging. relays usually have wiring diagram printed on housing it will show usually something like 87a 87b 30 as comm this is switch side with 30 to 87a on when switch not energized then when energized 30 will connet to 87b #85 & 86 is coil that when one side is connected to 12v and other side is connected to ground coil will energize and 30 would connect to 87b turning that on as switch. you can test relay by hooking light between 87b and ground with 12v on 30 and energizing relay, light will go on if relay is working.

Re: battery dying

Not to be insulting, but have you checked the alternator?

Thumbs up Re: battery dying

yeah, i had the alternator tested at autozone and the place that rebuilt it, it tested good. I got the problem fixed yesterday, the red wire going t the batt was bad I guess becouse I rewired it and now its charging like 14,5 volts so i guess the wire was bad or something, enywase i found my draw also, it was comeing from the radio, but thanks for all the advice guys im sure ill have plenty more questions.
