w.i.p: revell audi R8 with custom made rims

i started this one today. not too much modifications. the kit will mostly be oob except custom made rims.

here are some pics of the body painted and cleared with only a small wing added to give a more agressive look to the car

paint and clear is from tamiya. mica black and silver leaf with ts-13 clear

so here are my custom made rims!

stock rims + work equip barrel + wide lips = new rims!

so next step is wet sanding it with 2000 grit from tamiya and polishing it with tamiya product also!

more to come!

Re: w.i.p: revell audi R8 with custom made rims

Nice start !
Is it dust you seem to have over the paint (2nd and 3rd pics ??); polishing will fix it.
Love the rims construction, even if it's not on a R8 that I would imagine them the most.
I was looking for an idea to use these Revell stock rims I will also replace on my GT concept, that gave me one !

rallymaster, what you see on second and third pics is not dust, it's actually a black metallic!

the sun wasn't really showing so we only see some but it's seems to have a bit of blue, white and gold metallic in it!

Re: w.i.p: revell audi R8 with custom made rims

i like everything but that offset looks a little bit weird considering they are front wheels.
did you have to prep it before paint/clear or no prep at all?

Ok, ok, my mistake, sorry for that wrong question, but as it seems there were some drops-like on the paint (3rd pic) I hesitated between a paint effect and dust...
Could you tell us more about that effect ? Did you mix the paints and apply them in the same time or one after the other ? (like I though you did then imagined dust instead of paint effect).
Seems to be really nice, a kind a "pearly" (if this word is right) effect, but it's right we can almost only appreciate it on the most lightened parts of the body on the pics.

I think what he did was use the silver leaf on the panel thats behind the door and mica black on the whole body. Both from spray paint (TS). I think it looks like that because mica black is metallic. But i could be wrong on his paint procedure.

PS the audi looks great with those wheels.

Re: w.i.p: revell audi R8 with custom made rims

Haa yes thanks I understand better now, of course silver leaf is over sideblades !
And Mica black and not black, that's why it gives this effect, I thought to simple black, didn't notice the "mica" mention, read to fast...

Re: w.i.p: revell audi R8 with custom made rims

it's exactly what i did. i sprayed silver leaf on the side blades, applied some masking tape on them, sprayed the mica black, then cleared the whole body

of course some prep as been done before all that!

i washed the body with dish soap to remove any oily product that could be on the body, sanded it with 600 grit sand paper, sprayed 2 fine coat of tamiya surface primer (gray), then sanded it with 800 grit, cleaned it before paint again, 2 fine coats of silver leaf, 2 coats of black, 3 fine coats of clear to be able to polish it after that!

when the car will be complete, i'll take pics in the sun to show the metallic in it! it's really beautiful!

Nice work. I like the spoiler on the car. Did you scratch build it?

I think he means HIS parts box. Not that kits. The wing isn't in that kit.
