Key Fob works after programming NOT after engine start?

I followed the Key fob programming instructions on another thread for my 2001 Toyota Camry-- I got the "confirmation" lock/unlock 1X following the addition of the key fob.. i close the door (to exit programing) and when i use the remote it works-- locks/unlocks...then if I start the car and shut it off and attempt to use the remote to lock the doors, i get a audible tone from the car....the only way to stop the tone is to hit the unlock button..

so why does the fob work immediately after programming before i start the car, but not after i start the car??

Not one of the more common problems posted. Are you using an OEM remote or aftermarket copy? Are you replacing a lost fob or another that stopped working? Does the car have a factory installed alarm system? I ask because you don't mention why you had to reprogram the fob.

If all else fails, your local dealer should be able to reprogram and troubleshoot it for about $75.

It has the factory installed keyless entry system...the key fobs are OEM (as best i can tell)..i ordered them from a dealer online. When we bought the car it had a aftermarket keyfob to replace the lost OEM ones...that wiorked great untill the case broke and we cant attach it to the key chain anymore.

I'm trying to program the new ones..The programing works...when im done i can lock/unlock the doors...but once i start the car and shut it off it doesnt...if i hit the lock button the car emits a "beeeeeeb" that doesnt stop until I hit the button again..Almost like once i start the car and shut it off the keyless system lost/erased the programing that i just did.

At the end of the programing sequence it says to close the door or insert the key in teh ignition..is there a step that im not doing right to "exit" teh programing?
