98 GC evaporator replacement issue
OK so the evaporator had to be replaced, and I decided to tackle it myself. It actually wasn't as difficult as I was preparing myself for, but I have run into a problem. I cannot get the liquid line back on the evaporator. I replaced the o-rings, and the gas line went right on without issues. But the liquid line will not. I looked into the line side where the spring lock is, and there is a third o-ring by the spring. Is that supposed to be there? I was sure I took both old o-rings off, but I may have missed it.
If so, does anyone have any tips to reinstall these quick disconnects? I have played with this for hours now, and now the flare on the evaporator side is strating to flatten out at the bottom. Can I re-flare this with a flare tool?? |

Re: 98 GC evaporator replacement issue
I think you have an extra o-ring holding it out. You may have to get a replacement piece at a scrap yard. Some parts stores will install new hose and crimp it for you. I have used special hose clamps with an extra piece to prevent it from coming off. This was on R-12 systems but your best bet is a professional crimp job.
If it won't hold vacuum after removing the old o-ring get a used piece and ask someone to crimp the new piece on your hose. |

Re: 98 GC evaporator replacement issue
i replaced my evap core, liquid line/expansion valve assembly, condensor and accumulator/drier assembly and I had a problem getting the drier hose assembly to lock onto the evap core, I had to remove the drier from it's bracket and connect the hose then put the drier back into it's bracket.
