2005 Suburban

I have 2 separate issues here with my 2005 Suburban LS , it has 103,000 miles on it and I have been gitting the engine light that point to the lt bank O2 sensors. I have replace both already and the code keeps coming back. The only other option I have at this point is the catalyc convertor. Has anyone else had this issue with a easier fix. The cheapist I could find was just over $300 dollar for the unit. The second issue is a cd is stuck in the player. It is a single unit in the dash. It has been replaced once under warr. with the same issue. Any help on either issue would be helpful.

what is the DTC number ???
who is the CD manufacturer [name of company that made disc] ?

The code is P0420. and as far as the manufacturer of the CD player in a 2005 suburban I am not sure.

DTC 420 is O2 sensor down stream of cat converter driver side ...this means that the cat converter is not operating correctly////OR THE DOWN STREAM SENSOR , is not operating correctly....

In cases such as this, I swap the downstream sensors, then see if the DTC changes,,,if it does this means the sensor is bad...if not your cat converter is bad,,,,at this mileage it would be odd that the one cat converter is bad...unless this engine had some poor maintenance over its life...

bad plugs,wires,dirty MAF,modifications ,intake manifold/coolant leaks into the combustion chamber,, etc.....



On the CD issue,,,my question is what is the DISC manufacturer name,,,,not the player manufacturer...

in other words ,,,is this a cd you made ????
some disc's made where too thick,,,this was several years ago...causing your exact problem....

the repair center just removed the stuck cd...I'm sure parts were not replaced/or the player..

I have put two new sensors on the upper Lt bank and swapped the lower ones from side to side. The code stayed the same. It did not swap sides like I hoped it would. The vehicle has had regular oil changes along with all other scheduled maint. New plugs and wires. No oil consumption and no vaccum leaks to be found. Engine runs fine with no misses or anything like that. I just thought it was odd to have a cat. go out like that. As far as the cd maufacturer goes it is a store bought cd. The wife said it is her Sugarland cd. Also the unit was changed last time under warranty. The last cd was my Overflow cd that was purchased from the store. Neither was made at home.

Double check the wires to that driver's side post-cat sensor (three wires: 12V power, ground, and signal) and if good, swap the new pre-cat sensor with the suspect post-cat sensors on that side and clear the codes. If the trouble code reappears and is still the same, it's definitely the cat.

there is another way to see if the cat is bad as I suspect it is with your comments....with a cold engine ,,,start engine and with one hand on each converter see if the driverside converter takes longer to heat up...if so it is bad,,,as it should get hot equally..


with an aftermarket player anything is possible,,,,usually you can force eject the cd ,,,check with manufacturer how to do this..
