Neutral Safety Switch

When i put my Jeep in reverse the reverse lights dont kick on, however when i put it in between nuetral and reverse, they come on, ive heard that the NSS could need readjusting, just wondering if thats a possibilty? Also could this cause a whine noise whenever i put the Jeep in gear? Thanks for any help!

The neutral safety switch is probably bad. You can try cleaning it first.
I doubt the whining noise is related to the switch.

If you want to do routine maintenance on your vehicle, make sure you do not lose sight of the neutral safety switch. This is an important part of the automatic transmission in the vehicle, because it prevents the vehicle to start, unless you turn to the neutral or in the park gear. Gear drive, switch off the start circuit.
