Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

My projects this year will still be Mitsubishis. Since most of them will start from the same Tamiya evo6, I will build/post them at the same thread. The cars getting built are the evolutions from the later part of the 90's, namely 4, 5, 6, and a 6 TME.

The 4 is a Hasegawa kit. Modifications will be done in hopes to improve some details.
The 5 will be a tamiya WRC kit with 6 interior and original OZ wheels from fujimi.
The 6 will be pretty much box stock.
Since I have no access to any TME transkits, I will have a hard time building an exact replica of the TME. Seats will have to be left decalless. Wheels won't be original.

I have about a month left to build all four of them so I will need some prayers to finish them before school starts.

Started with Evo 4 body mods. Old tamiya evo 6 parts modified to fit. Headlight lenses shaped from fujimi pieces. Styrene card door handles. I tried to lower the headlights a little bit and expand the holes since the original looked a bit too small. Major surgeries done just to make the tamiya interior fit. I can't believe hasegawa used a evo1-3 chassis for all their evolutions!

It's not exactly finished, but most left will be internal mods ie. mounting the light pods.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Started Evo TME after finished the 4 body. Bumper made using an evo 6 one. It was butchered pretty bad since I was trying to use that bumper to make a non-evo years ago. The grill surrounds took the most time since that part was pretty weak and has to fit the lights well. At least I got the skeleton finished and all that's left is putty work.

Very nice.
If only I had that sort of commitment to model building.

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Nice job with the door handles and the front bumper on the TME. I'm kind of surprised you cut off the top section of the bumper though, I thought there wasn't any noticable change to that part of the bumper.

BTW have you tried contacting scale auto style to see if he had any spares of the TME transkit? No wheels, but hopefully he has some decals for you.

Quite the project you have here. Great work so far, especially on the door handles.

Nice! These should turn out great like your other mitsus. I gotta say the evo 4 is my favorite (big foglights draw me in). Keep us posted, and good luck.

Is this what your replicating? If so i know scale auto style i think made a t-kit. If you want i can cast the lip for you.

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I have always wanted to come up with a collection of the evo family, since I knew the sas t-kit was long out of production I have thoughts on and off about how to build that bumper. However, it was very unexpected to hear that sas is reopening a few days after i started on the bumper. =)

jla: The top section of the bumper was cut off because this bumper was originally a donor piece for my previous project, and I decided not to use it after cutting the top section off. I am now using this bumper as a starting point just to minimize my old project wastes. Actually, I don't know if the tamiya 6 kit was inaccurate, but I do notice on the real TME's the horizontal piece there is actually slightly depressed inward, instead of flush with the vertical sides.

midmazar: Thanks for the offer for the front bumper. I don't think I will need it for now since the one I am making is also very close to finishing. Give it another few days or so for putty/primer work and it should be ready for paint. Since I am planning to paint it white with no stripes, the three special decals on TME's would be a great help though.

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Update finally!!

The TME bumper sure took a long time! Hard part was making the lowest layer (where the lower intake holes are with) a level surface. I destroyed an entire sanding stick making it.

I forgot exactly the sequence of my progress, but it involved about 4 primer sessions.

and the front bumper completed.

complete bumper with shaped up lower lip.

Man that bumper looks sweet! That honestly looks better than the transkit from Renaissance (they left off the little edge around the vent on the left side of the bumper)!

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Evo 4 seat creation. The seat came from fujimi DC2 kit. Back filled, holes filled and improved detail. I might use this seat a few times later so I am casting this piece for sure.

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Seat is being taken for making a silicone mold. Looks like I will be in trouble though since I was too carried away on trying to use up my old silicone materials. One year old RTV + catalyst + 15 minutes of mixing = RTV curing 2 hours after mix and pour. At least I know the RTV will cure, worst I could imagine is the seat back half-mold leaving bubbles due to the mold curing quicker than it conforms to the seat details.

pics of the silicone that won't even flow, you can see clumps of dried bits. =(

Hopefully the silicone still conforms down the bottom at the seat so I don't waste a day of clay/mold box building.
