Problems

I have a 2000 impala ls 3.8L. I just purchased the car about 2 weeks ago, had 2 change the radiator and valve cover gaskets. Has 107,000 mile. I need to replace th cv joints and brakes, but the check engine light came on, and stayed on for about 4 hours, then went off as i was driving, What may be the problem with that? Also when i am at a complete stop and accelerate at a normal speed, the car seems to tug and jerk slighty, almost unnoticable between 1 and 2 thousand rpms...what is a possible reason 4 that?
