Anyone?

Is there anyone here running 4 ohm 12" JL w0's? If sowhat size of amp r u using. I have 2 in a sealed box, and am not sure what size or what setup to go with. The subs ARE dual voice coil. Which setup would be best, parralel or series? Also would i need an X-over?

It all depends on the amp.

If you hooked each set of voice coils up in series, you would have two 8 ohm speakers. then hook each speaker together in parallel and the amp bridged, you are now running a 4 ohm mono load, which on a non compeition series amp is the best configuration since it is using the most effiecient power.

ideally, if you had an amp that was 1 ohm mono stable or so, you would want to parallel each set of voice coils (two 2 ohm speakers), and then parallel each speaker bridged at the amp. This would make a 1 ohm mono load and put out mega power, but most amps cant handle this.

You cna also hook up any amp as a 2 ohm stereo load by hooking up each set of voice coils in parallel and then running those sets each off of one channel of the amp. a 2 ohm stereo load is the same wattage as a 4 ohm mono load, only the mono load is bridged so its making more effiecient power.

If you have a run-of-the-mill amp, 4 ohm mono load is what you are looking for. If you have a competition series amp, run the lowest ohm-age possible.

Part 2:
You will need a crossover unless you have a bandpass box which you do not. You will want to set your lowpass crossover @ about 120hz or so depending on what type of music you listen to.

yes. a crossover is necessary on subwoofers unless you have a bandpass box which you do not.

lots of amps now come with built in hi/lo-pass filters, some even variable, and you still need a crossover on a bandpass box. and the crossover point depends entirely on your configuration.

depends on the amp. if the amp says it has a built in crossover or a low-pass filter built in, then you don't need one, but otherwise you will.

iight sweet, this has helped me out a ton, my next problem is figuring out what setup i need, but i guess it wont matter till i get my amp. Would a 400 watt 2 channel amp run the JL 12"w0's good? i think their rated at 125 RMS

yeah, keep the gains low on the amp. JLs tend to be able to take a little more power than they are rated at. but if you hear the subs distorting, turn it down.

you dont necessarily need a crossover with a bandpass box. The box deesign itself works as a crossover. Its still a good idea to have a crossover so the voice coil isnt receiving signal that it cant reproduce, but technically, you dont need a crossover. the box has to be tuned, thus working as the crossover.
