96 grand am problem

i have a 96 grand am 4cyl and when i go to start to drive it i push the gas and it doesnt want to seem to go like its hesitent but after i give it more gas it seems to go after a little bit and while driving if i let off the gas the engine seems to putt until i give it more gas. Any suggestions on what to look for or change?

Replace the fuel filter. It is located between the gas tank and the rear bumper. My daughter's 96 se v6 had the same problem. A filter replacement did the trick. Beware of the so called quick disconnect fuel line fitting. It can be a bear if it wants to.
