The bus, I just ditched the suspension altogether. And notched the bottom of the seat so it wouldn't interfere.
The beetle, a little more work. The tamiya suspension pieces are excellent, so if you are careful enough, you can narrow them, and lower them the way you would the 1:1. For the rear, just make the halfshafts able to bend upward.
