'95 F-150 stalled going down the highway-dual tanks
So I am currently traveling across country with my 166K miles F150. Things had been going well, then the CEL comes on every once in a while. Sometimes it stayed on longer than usual. Then, the light came on and stayed on, the engine sputtered, I took off the cruise control, and it stalled. I switched from rear tank to front, put it in N, restarted, and things went well. Topped off front tank. Switched to rear at the gas station, and same stalling.
So, tonight at the hotel we drive to dinner, and I notice when the front is selected I am hearing what I think is the front tank fuel pump (same noise I hear when the key is inserted before starting for a few seconds) all the time where I don't recall hearing it before. My 9 y.o son even noticed it, in fact before I did. Also, I now switch to rear, seems to work fine, and I don't here the continuous noise.
It looks like there have been problems with the Ford dual tank system, but the continuous noise from the fuel pump has me worried. I can run on one tank, but I can't run with two jacked up tanks.
I am really concerned this is going to leave me stranded in West Texas with 2K more to go on my trip.
Any one have any idea what could cause the above situations, and more importantly, any rememdy?
Any advise would certainly be appreciated.
