Help with Tamiya Metalic Gold paint please?

Hi everyone, just want to know if anyone's got some advice regarding the use of Tamiya Metallic gold paint. I've got a can of that and I'm going to use it on Top Secret R34 and the Top Secret Z33. After buying the paint, I've reaslied there's a warning label discouraging the use of clear coat on the gold as well as having a layer of TS14 black underneath.

This brings me to two problems. The first problem is the sheer number of decals required on the top secret cars. I usually seal the decals with a clear coat and then polish on top of that, but since they don't like you using it on the gold paint, how am I going to keep it on there?

Second problem is the lack of shine from the gold. I tried it on an old discarded model (thats painted in black) and the paint came out much like the Tamiya silver leaf paint. So polishing it doesn't seem like a good idea. On the small area of that model, I did put a thin coat of clear just to test, and it seem it hasn't discolored llike you would with the silver leaf. Do you think it's safe to use it on the whole model in larger quantities?

I'm thinking of just using applying smaller amount of clear coat at a time so it wouldn't attack the gold........or if worse come to worse, buy a small compressor and spray gun and buy another type of clear coat.

I know someone on here made a nice R34 in gold (exactly the one I'm making) a while ago. Hope he reads this

Thanks all
James

I'd be more apt to use Alclad II gold. That's just me.

I looked at buying a can of the tamiya stuff, but my LHS was charging $14 for it! Yikes! Not worth it to me...

I used Gunze B501 over Tamiya's gold and it looks fine. Also B501 is great over decals.

yes....that can of gold paint is ridiculously expensive.....i guess i'll never know until I try it.....

as much I'd like to try other types of paint, I dn't have a compressor or spray gun so, I'm stuck with the tamiya range.
