Unhappy Speaker works great when woofer pushed.

Comrades -
I've got a set of Kappa 6.5s. If you aren't familiar with these speakers, they have an external cross over that splits the signal to the tweeter and woofer. I noticed the driver's side wasn't sounding like a loud speaker, but like just the tweeter was doing its thing. Upon closer examination the tweeter is working great, but the woofer is dead. I have eliminated the amp, wires and connection as sources of error. By chance I pressed the woofer in a good half inch and wouldn't you know it, the speaker sounded perfect. Unfortunately once I let off the woofer it dies again. So now I've got a bad connection somewhere after the terminals? Is that possible? Fixable? I really want to tear the unit apart to take a look at its innards, but I don't think it was designed for that. What is your take?
