92 grand prix se

im about to trade my f150 for a 92 grand prix se.
the only thing wrong with it is it has no door handles but the doors will open with a string attached to the inside handle. it a brojen tail pipe right before th cat but thats a easy fix and the driver side window will only go half way down, there power windows.

it only has 223000 miles.

is it worth it and if so, what else should i look at on it before i do it?

i did notice at idle when you go to take off, it kinda hestitaes but afte ru hit the gas pedal its ok. i figure a tune up would be good.

Re: 92 grand prix se

I think you could find better cars than one that you cant open the doors from the outside. But it is your call. 230,000 miles is getting up there for a 92 GP. What motor is in it? 3.4DOHC or 3.1? If its the 3.4DOHC, PASS!

Re: 92 grand prix se

If it's a 2-door, the aftermarket makes repro outside door handles for about $35-$40 each and it's an easy fix.

The driver's side window may be binding on the rod that used to run to the missing outside door handle, or it may have a window track out of place, debris in the track, etc...

After hearing the descripion on the F-150, I think this a possible good trade for you, but with that many miles on the GP, you never know what might go wrong next.

Re: 92 grand prix se

Just buy the car outright so you can have two vehicles for now.

Re: 92 grand prix se

hw do u get rid of a code 32 on a 92 grand prix se.

i was told it was the egr valve.

i tok it off and cleaned like they said. ( is the egr valve the thing with 3 black things on it coming off the intake?)

after i cleaned it it still says code 32

as of now i have a broken tail pipe right b4 the cat and no second muffler and i changed the front 3 plugs and wires but not the back 3 yet. would that caus ethe code?

Re: 92 grand prix se

I doubt either the broken pipe or the mis-matched plugs would trip that code.

A code 32 is tripped when the computer commands the EGR valve to open during decelleration and the resultant manifold vacuum reading change is out of spec. If cleaning didn't help, most likely it's time for a new EGR valve.

You may want to check the MAP sensor vacuum supply hose for cracks or breaks, as the ECM uses the MAP sensor vacuum signal during this test.

Re: 92 grand prix se

Rich I think on them older 3100's if my memory serves me correctly, the MAP hose is made out of a material that is very succeptible to the elements and engine temps. And over time I think they get very soft and split very easily. If I were him I would probably just replace it before the EGR valve and see what happens.

Re: 92 grand prix se

I would also ask about overheating? I have a 94 and it has 170000 miles on it and i am in need of a intake gasket, heard these motors are notorius for needing intake gaskets

Re: 92 grand prix se

The Vin-T motors of 91-93 are a different intake manifold design than the 94-up Vin-M motors, so the intake issue does not apply to the OP's problem. As I suggested in post 11, and Tim added in post 12, check for vacuum leaks before you plunk down the $200+ for a new EGR.
