I have a 2002 Grand Am I have a engine tick that comes and gos comes and gos

it would help if you posted what motor you have? is it the 3400, or the quad 4?

it you have the 4 cylinder...it could be the infamous timing chain

if its the 3400, they are pretty common for what is called "piston slap" but it should go away after the car warms up.
