'97 7.3L fuel in crankcase
Hello to all, new to the board. I have some experience with large diesel engines, forklifts, cranes, tractors, ect..., non with pickup diesels. I have a problem with a 1997 7.3 getting diesel in the oil. Leaking injector pump seal? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance. |

Re: '97 7.3L fuel in crankcase
I would think either injector O-rings or injector sleeves in the heads. Could be just one injector location failed.
Power strokes do not have an injector pump, they use high pressure oil to pressurize and inject the fuel through electronically controlled injectors. Ain't technology grand? Dave / Believer45

Re: '97 7.3L fuel in crankcase
Another possibility would be fuel leaking out of the fuel pump (behind the fuel filter housing, kind of tucked under the turbo mount bracket on top of the engine) through the plunger O-ring but I have never heard of this one, just thinking of where fuel and oil systems actually touch.
Are you losing oil at a pretty decent rate? Also if you open the fuel filter housing and look at the fuel there (once the filter cartridge is out) is the fuel a darker color than normal? If so it indicates failed injector O rings as well. Dave / Believer45
