Minor radio problems

the volume control on my 01 GP will sometimes turn up when you try to turn it down or vise versa, also cd player skips over any little bump, I noticed a few other pontiacs with this radio acting up in the same ways, is there a cheap fix for this?

Re: Minor radio problems

Yes there is a cheap way. I had that same issue last year with my stock deck. It turns out it was a controll board inside the radio itself. I found a company on ebay who I shipped my radio to, they cleaned the laser, fixed the volume button, and replaced all the lights bulbs inside of it (because a few of mine were out). At the time all that work costed 50.00. Which covered the parts/service/and return shipping. They did a great job. See link below.

Re: Minor radio problems

Would a different style of radio be easily swapped in, like one from a Grand-am, Bonneville, newer grand prix? or would this just be more of a hassle than its worth

Re: Minor radio problems

Just going to have the same issues as this one.

But to answer your question, yes another pontiac radio from a grand am and probably a sunfire and a the pontiac van would fit and work just fine.

Re: Minor radio problems

Or take a look at crutchfield for a different radio. I have a Kenwood installed in my GP. You are looking at about $100 for a new deck. Plus you will need a dash kit and a wiring harness. If you choose that route.

Re: Minor radio problems

Unless he has bose and on star, then he will need the interface kit, which I hear is quite expensive.

Re: Minor radio problems

I'd rather replace it with another pontiac radio, or get mine fixed because of the matching red lighting, and I think aftermerket radios just look gaudy and out of place,

tblake, I was talking about one of the newer style radios (sorry for the confusion)

Re: Minor radio problems

Yeah, I'm not sure about them. If they would bolt up you may be able to wire them together. Only issue is going to be the data line system and theftlock on the new radio.
