ignition switch problem?

Have a Saturn Ion 3, sometimes when I try to turn off the car, the key will stop at the accessory position. I have a hard time trying to turn it off. I keep turning it back and forth many times till it will finally go to the off position and pull the key out. This also happens with the spare key. Any ideas?

Re: ignition switch problem?

Does your key look wore out? if not, when it does get stuck, play with the gear shifter and the button while trying to get the key out and see if it will come free

Re: ignition switch problem?

I tried pushing on the shifter and steering wheel but it doesn't seem to help. What button are you talking about? I have three keys, all seem good with one a little worn.

Re: ignition switch problem?

The button on the shifter.

If that doesn't work then you will have to replace the ignition cylinder. What is happening is the tumblers inside the cylinders are getting jambed up.

Re: ignition switch problem?

when I push on the shifter in park the key will come out. Is there a cable underneath the car that can be adjusted for this?

How do I get to it? Under the car or must I take the shifter apart?

Re: ignition switch problem?

So I must remove the center console from inside the car and then go under the car? Why remove the console if going under the car to adjust it?
