2001 Montana wheel bearing??
We have a 01 montana and it has a humming/rubbing wheel bearing noise in the back of the van and it sounds like it is coming from the right rear. I put a new hub on that side but the noise is the same? If you drive straight it does not make this noise but if you turn slightly to the right it makes the noise but a left turn is quiet. Any ideas? It is for sure in the back. I had one in the front too but fixed it already.

Re: 2001 Montana wheel bearing??
Your description of the problem does sound like a blown wheel bearing. Sounds the same on my wife's 2003 Buick "run about" - before we got both of its front wheel bearings replaced. As a suggestion, ask a few of your local auto shops for an inspection. Many shops will provide a free inspection of wheel bearings and steering parts.

Re: 2001 Montana wheel bearing??
I had it checked and they said it was fine. Of course it is not because you can hear it. I wonder if it could be the lr instead of the rr but it sure sounds like it is the rr. hmmm

Re: 2001 Montana wheel bearing??
By your description it should be the left rear. When you turn to the right you put a side-load on the left bearings while "unloading" the right bearings. Left turn, visa-versa. Sounds like you'll be replacing the left side too.

Re: 2001 Montana wheel bearing??
I still need to fix the rr wheel bearing but NOW as of this morning I suddenly have the loud buzzing/whining/medium growl in the front end. Everything runs/drives fine. No lights nothing. I did just put new brakes on the front and had the rotors turned but it did NOT do this after I put the brakes on. I'm going to take it apart when I get home and see if I did something wrong. This thing is breaking down on my faster than I can afford to fix it!! LOL (ps...back wheel bearing is not very bad yet so i'm not in a hurry to fix)

Re: 2001 Montana wheel bearing??
Well it WAS the right front wheel bearing that was growling loudly. It got even worse on the way home. Now I just need to fix the left rear but it is just a faint groan when turning right. I'll have to do that next paycheck. These wheel bearings are expensive. I got the better BCA/National brand.
