2003 Grand Am GT. keyless entry problem?

I have a 2003 Grand Am GT. It is an Automatic with a V6 engine. It only has 46000 miles on it and the other day, when I got in it and started it up. My automatic Locks started going crazy. They were continuously locking and unlocking, and my dash kept beeping so we checked it out. We couldn't get the locking to stop and all 3 door lock relays were clicking. We removed all 3 of them but now the beeping continues when the car is in park and if the car is left running while in park, even if someone is in it, the alarm horn (the one that beeps when you lock the car with the keyless entry) beeps every now and then. We even took the battery out of the keyless entry remote. All three relays have to be out for it to stop too, if any of them are in the fuse panel the locks start going crazy again and the relay clicks.

Re: 2003 Grand Am GT. keyless entry problem?

Welcome to AF!

Check the car battery voltage with engine off, should be 12.4-13 vlts. While running it should be 14+ vlts. Make sure the cables are all clean & tight.

Do you have a sun roof ??
Have you had a lot of rain recently?
Has your remote been dropped or got wet recently ?
Does it still start and drive ok ??

Also check the remote battery voltage, might just be going dead.
Worst case its your BCM, about $400+ at the stealership, around $200 refurbish(fixed) and anywhere from $50-100 to program at the stealership.

Re: 2003 Grand Am GT. keyless entry problem?

We checked the battery voltage. It was a little low, but not by much. I do have a sunroof, but there hasn't been a whole lot of rain recently. The remote hasn't really had anything unusual happen to it, and we took the batteries out of it and the problem still continued. And it starts okay and doesn't have any problem when I'm driving it, but the beeping resumes as soon as I put it into park.

Re: 2003 Grand Am GT. keyless entry problem?

Did you notice and corrosion in the fuse boxs ?

With it acting the way you described, locking and unlocking relays clicking, it sounds like a power issue and not your keyless entry.

Id double check the cables and make sure the connections are clean and tight and getting the proper voltage.

Other then that its possible it could be one of the lock buttons in the doors making it malfunction.

Any other electrical anomalies happening ?

There's not really anything wrong with the fuses, the only other two strange things happening other than the door locks acting up, is the beeping tone in the dash, and the random beeping of the horn.

yeah sounds like you have a bad short or the BCM is toast.

Does this have an aftermarket alarm?

Has this car ever been in a wrecked, or had any transmission work done, that you know of ?

And have you had the car scanned for trouble codes?

No never had any accidents and I doubt there was ever any transmission work done on it, there was only 12,000 miles on the car when I bought it.

A local mechanic scanned it for me and didn't find out anything that way.

Re: 2003 Grand Am GT. keyless entry problem?

Does sound like a bad BCM that would need to be checked by the stealership unfortunatly.

Btw does this have a sun roof ?
