Not charging at idle

My 1967 MGB generator works like it should. But when I turn on the lights step on the brake the generator only puts out 10 volts so the turn signal does not have enough power to work unless I rev-up the engine. Is the normal for a geneator type system ?

Generators are different than alternators where an alternator will charge at idle producing the proper voltage. A generators output will decrease at low speed and as it gets older due to wear on the brushes and commutator it will decrease even more. Even with all that said, it sounds like you have a weak battery to me. Could be a combination of both. PJ
