3g Eclipse with four banger

I just bought a 2003 GS. The car is pretty sweet all the way around. Just picked up some 19's for it. I was wondering if anyone had ideas of some nice inexpensive engine mods. So I can jump the horsepower.

You’re going to need that horsepower from all the rotational mass you've added.

Huh

Dont understand what you just said, do you mean I am going to need more horsepower because of the rims. If so ok, have any ideas?

Really the only things you can do on a 3G with out going nuts and dumping a lot of money are the following:

1. Intake: AEM, OBX, etc. you can find them on ebay for cheap
2. Exhaust:
a) Headers:
b) High flow Cat:
c) Cat-back: Greddy, Borla, Apex'i, etc.

much more expensive but something else you can do
3. Nitrous: Only if you are serious, probably a 25-35hp shot is
reasonable without having to upgrade the fuel system

Thats about all you can do for "cheap" there are some random other things like a throttle body spacer, etc. But you wont get much more power out of your car without some serious money invested.

If you spent about $2000 on all the above you would be looking at mabey a 60-70hp gain at the flywheel.

Hope this helps.
Peace

What about a chip

Can I chip and get some extra power. I live in new hampshire I dont need huge top end, but I want the acceleration. When I run up to the stop sign I want the power and for the long backroads.

1995 Eclipse GSX Questions

Hi my name is eric and Im thinking of getting a 1995 Eclipse GSX. It has 45,000 miles or so. Have any of you had any problems with this car or is there anything i should know about when i get it?

What kind of modifications will I need to get to make it run low13's? What will I get with intake/exhaust?

Is there any problems that you have had with yours after you bought your car? I read alot about people having problems with the transmission. Alot of people said its very crappy shifting? Whats bad about it and can it be fixed? I read that the gears slip sometimes. I also read about problems with the timing belt and water pump. Also read about crazy oil conomption.

How will I do on gas milage. Is it reliable and easy to maintain? How is the room in the car? Is the insurance going to be very expensive?

This will be my first car and I want to make sure I will be happy with it

Thanks

Holy run on sentence Batman! Why would you send him to to a place that you call a "bunch of morons"? Doesn't seem particurally helpful. If you mean the people here are morons then I have two things to point out. One, your command of English sucks and bugger-off troll.

i feel a need to input here.. i also have a 2001, mine may not have been the 7th made hehe but it is still sweet... my car runs 13's, and that is pretty damn good for an automatic 3rd gen. HOWEVER, i put about 15,000 into the car on top of the 30,000 that it cost. SO... if you want a cheap car to make fast, the eclipse 3rd gen is definately NOT THE WAY TO GO. don't get me wrong.. as i say in all of my posts, i love my car, i just don't want you to think that it is cheap, and please dont get wrapped up in the headers... it is not a strong car from the begginning, so please don't even try to go all engine. any 3g owner should go forced induction. the best bang for the buck is nitrous, all the way, but when that is not enough, and you finally decide to get a turbo, bear in mind taht the intake that you bought will no longer be used, and you can't get "headers", because your stock headers will have to be cut. if you don't know what i am talking about, you are not even close to ready to so much as speak about your car being fast.

Look what I found

Apparently the 2G manifold bolts right up to the I-4 3G
