1988 Accord kicks out of gear

I have a 1988 Accord, carbureted, automatic. When I get in and put the car in forward gear it will go for a few yards and then it will kick out of gear. It does not slip, it just kicks out of gear. If I let it set for a while it will do the same thing. It goes great in reverse but I just get tired of driving backwards(haha). Any help will be greatly appreciated and have a great day!!!!!
