THIS USUALLY MEANS that the transmission is slipping in OD..then the pcm/computer commands the transmission to maximum line pressure,,which causes the harsh up shift...

when the engine is off this is then reset....

having the transmission examined for DTC . OEM specific drivetrain scanners required...not the generic type...

It is possible it is just a dirty filter or transmission fluid is shot..

IF YOUR LUCKY....

Re: 99 Silverado shifts hard

If it is not the trans filter and fluid, could this be areal costly problem?

don't guess, it's usually too late when your guess turns wrong. MANY have same issue, it's f-d up design. i fixed mine by replacing filter, doing fluid change, and adding lucas trannie oil.

The TransGo Shiftkit is a set of parts to be installed in the valve body of your transmission, it's not that hard to install just take your time. I found my shift kit on Ebay for $35, this was the "professional" kit.

It's like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-4L...%3A1|72%3A1171
