A Future Floor Wax FAQ

Here's what I've learned about future floor wax so far:

-Cheap $6.99/750mL at Superstore
-Glossy
-Smells nice but doesn't mean its healthy to breathe it in
-Self Leveling
-Can be airbrushed/handpainted with q-tips, widebrush etc.
-Thinned/Dissolved/Cleaned with windex, isopropyl alcohol
-It is NOT as tough and hard as everyone says - It can be scratched/dented by a careless fingernail so please don't abuse it.
-try not to get water droplets or let a futured surface stay wet for a long time - surface will partially soften and get cloudy until it dries out again. At this time the surface is very fragile.

**If you get heavy orange peel with future, a way to fix the situation sometimes is to clean your airbrush by spraying alcohol through it. Instead of spraying this alcohol into a waste container, lightly mist it onto the future floor wax'd surface to remelt and hopefully get a smoother finish.

Best results for airbrushing:
-20 PSI
-unthinned
-airbrush 5-6 inches from surface
-don't linger over the area - pass over quick with no hesitatiton to avoid buildup
-make sure surface looks uniformly wet with no orange peel -haziness and clouds which may appear will clear as it dries
-avoid overspray; overspray will develop into orange peel and should be sprayed over with more future to even it out

Future is also very cleanable with ammonia. Spray some Windex, or generic window cleaner, or anything that contains ammonia through your airbrush.

Some modelers on rec.models.scale actually thin future 50/50 with rubbing alcohol.

Try wiping it on with a clean tissue or cloth. With practice it works very nice.

Yes you can polish it. i sand it using 2000 tamiya sandpaper and then use T-cut to polish it and looks really shinny after that. (but don't wetsand it)

That's good!

I have a Q! When airbrushing what can you clean it with after? Is water enough to do it?

Use clear ammonia to clean.

When ever I polish future floor wax with Tamiya compound it always leaves the surface hazy with lots of little swirls. What's up?

There are better polishable clear coats than Future. Future gives the best shine without polishing, though.
