Driver's door Lock

1999 Windstar LX - The driver's door lock would not lock completely by pressing the power button. So I opened up the door and the linkage looks pretty simple (not like the sliding door) where the rod is connected directly to the actuator. I put it back together and now the lock has trouble un-locking. I guess that is better. My question is: does an actuator where out to where it gets too weak to properly open and close or is it just the linkage like wit the sliding door lock? Should I try to replce the actuator?

Re: Driver's door Lock

not uncommon for the actuator to wear out, particularly the driver's as it's opened the most. I'd suggest replacing it with a new one. I got mine from a Ford direct on-line site. Some have used a "universal" unit but I've heard of some fit problems with this type. It's a bit of a PITA job but doable.

Re: Driver's door Lock

Before you replace anything, clean and relube with white lithium grease all the moving/sliding portions of the lock linkage assembly within the door. Solved the problem for me.
