M3 vs G35
Long time Reader First time posting a story.
Bone Stock 2008 g35 journey, with premium package.Auto. M3 mods unknown. I'm guessing Stock. Not the new ones. One previous body Convertible. We'd been playing from a few lights, one time he went I didn't another time I did he didn't. Finally we line up, now we both know we're going. I power braked a bit, but I had forgotten to kill T/C. Light goes green we go, chirping from the tires. TC kicks in slows me down a bit, we're going even, I hear him chirp as he shifts. Dead even till about 75 ish. I start to pull slightly by 90 I have half a car and I shut it down. I wonder how it would have gone down if I had killed TC. |

Re: M3 vs G35
Then it wasn't an M3 or he wasn't racing.

Re: M3 vs G35
I was expecting to lose too, so I was as surprised as you are.
If it wasn't an M3, it had to be a 330 and a 330 would not keep up like that. He might have not been a good driver but he was racing. |

Re: M3 vs G35
Could have a modified 330. He may have botched the launch, but once it got rolling it would pull you pretty hard. He's a full .5 sec faster in the 1/4 (according to what I can find for your times on wiki) and traps higher. He may have gunned it, but I doubt he was wailing on it. He could have been an excellent driver in a 330ci ZHP with a few easy modifications, as stock they have been known to go 14.0 with a driver.

Re: M3 vs G35
According to Wikipedia, not the best of sources, but whatever.
The Convertible M3 and 2008 g35 have similar very similar quarter mile and 0-60 times. |

Re: M3 vs G35
An 07 G35S sedan with the 5AT and ghetto exhaust+K&N did a 13.651@103 here.
An E46 M3 will go a 13.7 at around 104. So a modified, more powerful version of your car would take an E46 'vert. Your stock car? Yeah, I'll say he wasn't racing because even if he flubbed the launch, and flubbed the 1/2 shift (hard to do in an E46) he would still pull you on the big end where it isn't about driver skill and is about holding down the gas harder. I've driven both cars in question, and I can tell you a '46 M3 is faster. I've also raced a G35S 6MT and an M45 and beat both. I ran a stock E46 M3 driven by someone I know can't drive because I work with him, and he stomped my shit from 50 to about a buck thirty or so. I know its not the most scientific data, but it works for me. Then again the aforementioned G35 was the same one that almost lost to a non turbo Talon. But the M, yeah, that was a fun race.

Re: M3 vs G35
I'm sure if we had gone into the triple digits he would have pulled on me. Also the g35S is a bit heavier then the non S.
I'm sure he was racing and doing everything in his power to win, because of how it went down, anyone with a slight bit of ego wouldn't wanna lose in that situation. And 90 in a 40 doesn't just happen. Anyways we can go back and forth all day, only way to prove it would be to take it out to the track. |
