It sounds like your cat converter is clogged. I had a dodge champ, that the converter was clogged and had a loss of power when trying to pass on the expressway.

x2 on the converter. Rent a vacuum guage, hook it up to non ported engine vacuum. At idle your car should read about 16 inches of vacuum and hold steady. Increase the RPM to 2000 and hold steady. Vacuum at this point should also remain steady. If it drops, your converter is suspect.

Mine is experiencing a similar issue. From a stop it is very sluggish. Seems like all the power loss is on the low end. Would a bad converter cause this?

Re: 03 grand prix loss of power

I have an 01 Grand Prix GT and my catalytic converter was plugged. THere was no air coming out of the exhaust..I would lose power passing, going up hills and on the on ramps to enter traffic. I replaced it along with 2 O2 sensors because I had a bad one...and it accelerates like a dream now
