Re: 95 camaro 3.4l starting and idling issue.

would it be the airflow sensor causing the problem, if so would that also cause it to not start.

Re: 95 camaro 3.4l starting and idling issue.

95 3.4 didnt have an air flow sensor
start with the basics check the throttle body for something holding it open
also have the engine codes checked
reset the iac, hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank the car for about 30 seconds then try starting the car

Re: 95 camaro 3.4l starting and idling issue.

i found a hose piece that was split so it was a vaccum issue i guess but cant figure out why it wont start on its own, its sounds like its trying to turn over

Re: 95 camaro 3.4l starting and idling issue.

well i was wrong about that 2 to 1 hose piece being the problem, still idles at 3000 rpms, and still wont start on its own and i cant get it up to a shop to get the car scanned and figure out the problem. it starts up fine if i spray starter fluid in it, but not if i try to crank it without it.

that's the right direction. though, it sounds to me like somebody set the idle real high to keep it running (i.e. cover up some other problem). with it set too high, it would have the same effect as trying to start the car with your foot on the gas (too much air). find the idle adjustment screw and back it out 7-8 turns. see if that helps. if not start it with the fluid again and see where it idles. keep backing the screw out until you get to ~1000rpms.

throttle position sensor could be bad or installed wrong (or not connected).
also a Idle Air Control valve (IAC) that is stuck (internals not moving properly) could prevent the car from starting. this generally can be fixed by taking the internal parts out, smoothing them out with sandpaper, doing the same to the bore, and adding some lubricant to the spring and everything else.

very likely, your problem is with one of these three items.

any check engine light on, while it's running?
if so, reset it by unplugging the batter for 10mins, then see if the light comes back.
