80's compatibilty

someone i work with is selling a 80's cutlass (prob the 1980 one) and the trans is shot. i was planning on putting a 350 in it with a new tranny and since its similar to a monte carlo i was thinking its compatible with chevy parts but want to make sure about it before buying

Re: 80's compatibilty

that would be a yes and a no. If the car at that time has a chevy engine then yes. if it has an olds engine then the bolt pattern on the tranny is different. but you can by a plate for that problem or just swap the tranny and the motor to the same thing. pontiac also used th olds bolt pattern
