I'm sure all of you have seen how the box looks and all, blablabla. so I'll skip those pics. I am not a Michael Schumacher fan nor am I a Ferrari fan but I can appreciate a beautiful car and since the real one is really outta reach, I'll settle for one twelve times smaller and non-operational. I'm also not a fan of Revell kits so this is the only problem I have. I dislike how the entire kit was made. The moldings are horrible (as usual with Revell kits) and that paint job is ugly (to my standards), the sealbelt is super fake and deff will not be used, and that's what I can say for now...

here's just a mock-up. I started sanding off the paint. I tried stripping a different red piece but castrol didnt do it, so sanding it is...


I glued these parts together cause none of those panel lines exist on the real car, except for the bottom 'line', the one separating the monocoque and the underside of the car. Put putty and still haven't taken it off. I'm currently working on the MP4/6.

Wow, ive just been thinking about buying one of these kits!!! great to see a build of one of these, pity about the problems with the kit.

Try 91% or higher Alcohol to strip that paint. It works on most laquers which Castrol doesn't.

I prob wont on this build but would that melt the plastic? I guess I'll try on some of the wing parts (cause Imma scratch-build the ones I will use on the finished car)

Isopropyl alcohol does not attack plastic, it's as safe as water!

Thanks alot you guys. Imma go get some today. Do I dip it and leave it soaking like it if were Castrol? It'll make my build that much easier... the 180 grit method would have taken me a loooong time, just to sand. And to think I was gonna start this thread only when I was far into the build....

Wow, last night I dipped all the smaller parts that were red into brake fluid and today in the afternoon when I checked, it came off just by hosing them down. But then I was left with red brake fluid and not much of it anyways (btw, an exothermic reaction occurs) so I went and bought the alcohol, 91% was all I found @CVS. Thing worked great as well, I guess way better than brake fluid since it only took seconds for me to see paint melting away, so I dipped it for about half hour and this is what I was left with. I totally forgot about the cowl, hence it's still red in this pic, but tomorrow's a different story...

I think you can only get 91% iso alcohol at places like Walgreens, but electronics joints like Frys have 99% iirc.

May I ask how you managed to soak it for half an hour? I've only worked with isopropyl alcohol in terms of wiping electronics clean and I know it evaporates extremely quickly. Do you pour it into a tub with the body then seal it with a lid? Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

I bought a 32oz. bottle of 91% Alcohol for $3, used a tupperware I found in the kitchen, something I thought it would fit in. I used two different sizes... As for the evaporation, I left it open and I'm sure some evaporated but not much, not noticeable at least. And Im in Miami, where's really hot, even at night.... The alcohol turned a bit red and all loose paint particles sunk. 32oz. was enough and since the larger particles sunk, I was able to save more than half the bottle for future use, or to burn things.

Hi all. It's been a long time since this kit has sat in a box and I have done anything to it. I have preped about 60% of the parts that are now ready for primer and paint. I'm at work right now but tonight I'll post pics of what has been done and how it looks right now. Meanwhile, if anyone wants to help... What is the appropriate red paint I should use? Thanks!
