Unhappy 97 cav tranny issues

Hi there. I have a 97 cav with a 2.2l and 5 spd manual. The problem is, I was racing it and revved the engine, dumped the clutch, and heard a loud clank. When driving the car now....which is scary....at about 20 mph the tranny will almost seem as if it skips, then catch back into gear. I put the car on jack stands and removed the wheels and put the car into gear and it makes like a grinding noise. Anybody ever experienced this? Anybody out there that could help me please? Thanks in advance.

Re: 97 cav tranny issues

You probably broke something inside the transmission, quite possibly a gear. They aren't meant for much torque, and dumping the clutch can do some damage. Does it feel like it skips in whatever gear you dumped the clutch in or will it do it in any gear? I would get it repaired ASAP, you probably have a chunk of gear floating around in the oil, you definitely don't want it to get caught in the gears while you're driving, that will do much more damage.
