Another McLaren MP4/6...

This model will be sold on eBay so if you you want it, let me know...

Here I applied some putty to things

I tried doing this metal foil thing but I didnt like the way it would look. I noticed that after a day or so, a clear film started peeling off from the edges (but the darn thing didnt fully come off 'that easy') so I took it all off.

Here I glued some of the engine parts so I can fill gaps and such...

Engine and transmisson painted. I think the color is off but I'm not not about to strip it, cause the putty would come off too so..

Carbon figer applied

Buncha miscellaneous parts

Brakes. Two right ones; gaps were filled and holes re-drilled. Two left ones; gaps were filled and not yet drilled.

Underside

Re: Another McLaren MP4/6...

There is always room for "another" MP 4/6 on here... The start iof your project looks promising. Will it be an oob-build?

Not quite sure what an 'oob-build' means Godfather.

Re: Another McLaren MP4/6...

More updates.

Brakes still missing that flat earth color along its edge. I was able to make unnoticeable that line that divides the rotors. Idk, this is one thing alotta those beautiful MP4/6s always have, that darn line, and I find it very ugly when the rest (of those well-made MP4/6s) is superbly built... that's just me..

The coolin vent. Sorry for the red dust you'll see all over. I was sanding off the paint from the F2002...

Here's how the cockpit is goin... you can see that the 'elbow pad' by the shifter is coming off a bit, i'll fix that in time

Monocoque. CF decals were applied to both 'air duct thingys' and the nose

Dont ask me the size, but It's a really thin wire, I think it's picture hanggin wire (maybe not cause its too thin) but that's what was used to replicate 'the shit that holds those electronic boxes on both sides of the car', I like the way it came out. Not sure yet if I'll paint them black (w/a marker or a sharpie) or If I should just leave them bare-metal-look...

Underside CF decals

and the most expensive part of the car... CF decals applied to the air duct, the logos and that line still have to be painted, braided lines were used on that little radiator (the little one all the way in the back, I think its a transmission cooler but not sure). No A/N fitting wil be used cause I dont have any yet and I probably wont accquire them either for this build, it's my practice build... PE screws were used on the wing (even thou not pictured, yet).

Re: Another McLaren MP4/6...

What kind of CF decals did you use on the undertray, looks like the new S27 3D decals?

No they're not S27 decals, they're Detail Master decals. They're really thin compared to the only CF decal I've used in the past (and on this build too), from Scalemotorsports. They're kinda see-thru. Let me ask you, once I applied the decals and used Micro-sol to do so, I put the undertray in my trunk overnight till the next afternoon so as to evaporate all moisture from below the decals... but a few air bubbles appeared and I dont think it would be wise to clear it like that. Should I just poke them with an x-acto, apply more Micro-sol and let it dry or is there something else you'd recommend?

You got it! But I only used the 'not-brown-looking' one. Well, I tried the black one first and it looked nice so I just kept on using that one. Still havent used the other brown-lookin one.

Re: Another McLaren MP4/6...

I'd just try sol again first. If you do have to prick them, be careful about applying sol after that because it might cause the hole to get bigger as the decal shrinks back a bit from it. Perhaps just prick it and try to set it with water, or microset first? Let us know how you go. I hope you painted black first to make this sort of thing less visible

Re: Another McLaren MP4/6...

Fantastic work!!! The CF on the floor is spot-on according to all my references - I'm definitely using it on my 641/2 and MP4/6
You might want to revise the sidepods though since according to references they are not CF Have a look:

I can't wait for a next updates

Re: Another McLaren MP4/6...

Emilssi, I know what you're saying but I'm not trying to make this model look like Bil's. The 2nd MP4/6 I build was like that, I believe I left it as light grey primer, and it was flat as I wanted and around the same color. But this one's going like that. I intend to sell this kit so I think it looks nice like that... idk, maybe in time, but as of now I say 'no' to the change.

Testor's Jet exhaust lightly airbrushed over the chrome will give the proper color.
