Ferrari 250 Sperimentale

This is Tecnomodel's 1/24 kit of the 1961 250 Sperimentale which was the precursor to the 250 SWB.

Overall the kit is engineered very good. It is a full detail kit with engine and drivetrain copied from Italeri's 250 SWB kit. The hood was so thick that I just glued it on and built it as curbside.

I saw the real car in person last year at Amelia Island so I built it pretty much as it was there.

I used Tamiya TS23 Light Blue/TS13 Clear on the body and Acryl Dragon Black on the interior. The seat color is also Acryl.

The supplied etched wire wheels are painted with TS17 Gloss Aluminum.

Re: Ferrari 250 Sperimentale

Beautiful model, I love this 250GT in particular and your model looks brilliant.

On the rear, it's missing the white roundel with the '12', isn't it?

About the rear 'spoiler', I thought it was a see trough part, not a solid part as on this model.

Nice work! The model has rear shelf quilting...looks good! I really like early Ferraris in this blue color. Too bad you had to glue the hood shut.

Re: Ferrari 250 Sperimentale

You did an excellent job and the finish is great!

I know it's not your fault, rather a kit manufacturer mistake, but I have to say that those wheels are too big for this model, plus they are to far towards the exterior compared with the real deal.

Re: Ferrari 250 Sperimentale

Thanks all!

The rear spoiler was done as a solid piece of resin rather than a formed sheet metal piece as the real car is for simplicity sake I'm sure. If the rear spoiler didn't have the slight curvature to it it could have been done as a photo etch piece which could have been folded to position.

Tire diameters could be better...but there aren't many good alternatives for this period in scale. They could have been set in further which is not a fault of the kit, I could have simply shortened the axles.

The roundel on the deck lid would have to be contorted to go across the the spoiler and it wasn't printed in a manner to do so...so I left it off.

I barely have time to watch paint and glue dry these days which is to say I can't re-engineer/correct every kit I build. That's life.
