Unhappy Am I the only one with this problem?

I can't figure out why my right front tire rubs against the wheel well whenever I go over a bump, especially when I have a passenger. I almost have to slow down to 5 mph. I never really noticed it because I always have the stereo on. Even though I have on 205/55 R15s, I can't figure out why only the right front has a problem. Any ideas?

How heavy is the passenger?? j/k

1) do both wheels hit the bump at the same time? if the right is hitting first it may be taking more of the impact and just bottom out on that side.

2) the right strut has broken a seal or something and basically is acting like play-doh.

3) bumpstop is missing or deteriorated and now the strut compresses way more than it should. (i know someone who lost a bumpstop while lowering his car, so the same situation you are describing happened on one side)

hope this helps

I don't see how a strut could cause this, the only thing I can think of is the bumpstop maybe got blown out some how? Else it's not actually the tire that's rubbing but it could be something else rubbing.

You didn't mention if you had a lowering kit or not.

As far as I know the suspension doesn't has any modifications on it. I'll have to ask the previous owner if he did anything to the car

Now I'm really confused

Hey P10DET, I've went to a couple of mechanics to look at the problem. Both agree that the tire is rubbing because it's sagging. OK fine. One said he could see what it was doing but he couldn't figure out why , and the other simply said to replace both the spring/strut although he said that everything seems to be working fine. If the right side is sagging, what could I do to fix it and if it's not, then what?:help:

Howard, measure the height of the fender lip on both sides. It just doesn't strike me that it's sagging, but I could be wrong.

Well P10DET, I measured the height on both sides and the differences between them isn't anything worth mentioning. As it stands now, could it be that the camber/caster needs to be adjusted?

Hmmm. Now that you mention it, it could be excessive positive camber. Shoot, I had a really slick camber gauge in the garage at the geekout too. I didn't even think it could be that.

Shouldn't the guys at Discount Tire have corrected the camber/caster when they put on my wheels/tires?

Man, I thought you had all the answers P10DET. I'm disappointed in you.
